Words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and an estimated reading time, updating as you type. Paste a draft in and you get the numbers immediately, with no upload and no sign-in.
Character counts matter in a different set of places — SMS breaks at 160, and several social platforms cut off mid-sentence without warning.
Different tools give different numbers for the same text. Hyphenated words, numbers, URLs, headings, footnotes and captions all get treated inconsistently — some count "state-of-the-art" as one word, some as four. Word processors often include headers and footnotes in the total when a marker would not. If you are near a hard limit, leave yourself a few percent of slack rather than trusting any single figure to the exact word.
The estimate uses roughly 200 to 250 words per minute, which is typical for an adult reading ordinary prose. Dense technical writing runs slower, light copy faster, and reading aloud is slower again — closer to 130 words per minute, which is the number to use if you are timing a speech.
Everything runs in your browser. Your text is never sent anywhere, stored, or used for anything.
